A fun, chattering box of bones – I recently purchased a custom iMac and the keyboard that came with it was horrendous. Apple makes excellent products, but keyboards they do not (any longer, at least). Over the years, keys have become flatter, smaller, mushier, and harder to press. We’ve lost complete concept of tactility and touch typing. Because manufacturers are cheap, and mechanical keyboards are not, they’ve tried to design these “chiclet” type keys to look cool and modern. Mechanical keyboards are anything but cool-looking; they are visually throwbacks to the DOS era.

      – If you like mechanical keyboards, this one is excellent, especially if you’re cramped for space. Laser etched keys, satisfying travel, reliable. Just a great keyboard so far.

The keyboard I wish Apple still offered… – This keyboard feels great! It uses Alps mechanical key switches, identical to what was used on the old Apple Extended Keyboard II. If you’ve used an old IBM Model M keyboard, or any other mechanical keyboard which makes use of Cherry MX switches, then you’ll have a pretty good idea of how this keyboard feels (and sounds!)
